This week I was sent some new awesome speed ropes from a new company called No Label Fitness. Already speed rope has helped me dramatically improve my technique, times & better than that my Skills. So this speed rope would be for the aspiring, fighter, gym goer, person that works out a box that wants to improve & take their training to the next level. It is gender agnostic, (can’t believe I just used those fancy words) it’s for men, women or even children (if supervised). It’s a great rope that can be used by anyone.
“One thing I noticed was the build quality, this speed rope has been built with no expense spared”
One thing I noticed was the build quality, the handles have a little weight to them but I wouldn’t say they are weighted. The anodised cross cut aluminium handles feel nice & they’re not too heavy or chunky.
In summary the Pro-Series, is my speed rope of choice, i’ll always throw this in my gym bag before I leave home. I would give this 5*’s. It’s a great weight, easy to customise, and it definitely helped me up my game. I have customised mine by changing the colour of the rope from black to yellow and it looks “tip top” (def showing my age with that comment. To top all this off, it’s is covered by a 5 year warranty.
Handles are 16cm long & weight approximately 210g.
The 3 metre cable is 3mm thick (slightly thicker than a normal speed rope cable) made up of 7×1 braided aeronautical grade stainless steel and has been coated for extra protection and tangle free storage.
Metal cable guide that improves durability.

What The Manufacturer Says:
The pinnacle of speed rope innovation
When we were designing the Pro Series we had to make this speed rope better than anything else available on the market. The Pro-Series speed rope is the ultimate double under fitness tool ensuring build quality, functionality and speed are at your finger tips. We want this experience to be the one that you tell all your friends about.
Not all speed ropes are built equally
The Pro-Series is called so as it’s our top line speed rope. We chose a 15mm cut aluminium alloy handle that has been cross machined to give you a stronger more comfortable grip. The handle measures 130mm in length which from our research is the optimum length on average. This light weight aluminium is “bomb proof”. Using a light weight aluminium alloy is a relatively new concept amongst speed ropes and in our opinion is the latest and greatest thing to happen.

The Pro Skip 360 represents the next step up from the CSX SSR-1 rope previously reviewed. Very similar in nearly all aspects, its main improvement is the metal connection “wands” which the cable runs through. It’s compact size and versatility as a speed rope make it a great all rounder!
Like every week, I hit the box with my trial rope, this week the Pro Skip 360 skipping rope. At the start of the session I was concerned as to how the handles would fair, as previous experience had taught me that at times, plastic handles can bend, and that can be catastrophic to getting your PB, as a revolution comes to a grinding halt. My fears were quickly put away when the I got in the box, it was
“My fears were quickly put away when the I got in the box”
certainly a sturdy design. My main gripe with the rope however is that the way the handle and metal “wand” connect obviously wasn’t quite right, as after my WOD including a LOT of DU’s the connection was definitely starting to wobble. WOD partners with similar ropes didn’t have this problem, so I expect it to be an issue with either Pro Skip ropes, or maybe I was just unlucky!!

Do you have a spare room on the ground floor or a garage you could use?
If you do then this article is for you. It covers what you need, the cost implications and how to make your perfect crossfit home gym. Before starting any gym project it is essential that you already have the skills you need in order to workout safely at home. We would recommend you visit your local box and do a few sessions there learning all the basics & how to lift safely. Once you are confident with all the basics then it’s time to build your perfect box at home.
Below I will show a list of essentials for your new box/gym at home:
To have to successful home box gym you will need:
A safe working space you can use that is not dangerous
Speed ropes are an essential for warming up and doing double unders
You will need an Olympic bar & plates. Preferably bumper plates as they will last longer, protect to floor or lifting platform. The bar should weight 20kg.
A chin up bar, or similar. Better than this would be olympic rings and something you can hang them on
Kettlebells are a great addition to any home gym find a weight that is challenging
Having a medicine ball will be great for wall ball squats
Rubber flooring is a good idea, not only to reduce noise while dropping weights it will also protect your floor and offer a softer surface for your joints
You will also need a box usually 24″ high to do your plyometric jumps
A decent set of dumbells taking you from low weight upto your max
Will a speed rope make me better at double unders?
Are you that person that has been religiously going to park or to you box drilling single unders until your calfs are burning and you can’t do anymore, all within the hope that you can eventually get to double unders?
Well our advice is stop doing these single unders, man up and start trying the doubles.
When attempting a double under the contact time of your feet touching the floor is only slightly less than when you are performing a single under or a normal jump. What’s this got to do with anything i hear you ask? Well one thing that you do do, is you jump twice as high when performing a double under.
My point is that although we are performing the same movement during a double under as when we are doing a single under, we use recruit the muscle and use them in a very different way. What makes this happen is something call the stretch shortening cycle as know as the SSC. In layman’s terms this basically mean that your muscles when they contract are doing so more forcefully after being stretched by a load ie your higher jump.
When we look at this again it seems that the SSC is an integral part of the double under. This leads me onto my next point which is if you are trying to learn a double under the only way you can do this is by practice. You need to teach your body a new jumping pattern as a jump for a double under is completely different to that of a single under. So scaling back in this instance will not work.
My WOD says i need to do 50 DUs?
In this instance it would be better to attempt 10 x sets of 5 DUs than going back to singles until you can perform numerous DUs unbroken.
So to summarise if you want to be able to do a double under you need to teach your body how to do them, you need to be patient and stick with it. Also have in a speed rope will improve your chances.
Well for starters we need to look at budget. To be frank you’re not going to get a decent speed rope for less than a tenner. So our target price range to look for our best speed rope should be between £10-£50.
What should you be looking for?
– Either a high quality moulded plastic or metal handle. This will determine the type of weight of handle you will have. The plastic handles are usually a little lighter.
– The better quality speed ropes will feature a ball bearing mechanism to allow the speed rope to spin faster
– Usually when buying a speed rope they come with an oversize rope. When looking for the best speed rope, you ideally need it to be adjustable so that you can change the length easily. They will either have a screw adjustable top or lug which you can loosen or tighten.
– The rope part will need to be made from wire (usually steel). Either naked or covered in a hard-wearing nylon.
To give you an idea about what the best speed rope is, why don’t you visit our speed rope reviews page. Here you will find a number of product reviews including our clear winner the GASP Fitness SSR-1
For any serious person going to a Crossfit box you will know that double unders can be an important part of any warm up or WOD (workout of the day). Most boxes or gyms publicise their WODs a day or so before so you know what you will be doing on the day. If you’re fed up of using the old speed ropes that are lying around the gym then now is your time to change that.
The team at www.bestskippingrope.co.uk say “Always be prepared”.
Having your own speed rope is better than using one of the scabby old ones in your local box (my apologies if the ones in your box are amazing and shiny & new). By having your own speed rope you can familiarise yourself with the weight, how it spins and how you use it. The benefits of having your own speed rope are obvious, you’ll be smashing your WOD times and drastically increasing your AMRAP circuits. Not only improving your times you’ll be decreasing the dreaded whiplash both on your back and feet. OUCH!!
So now it’s you time to go shopping. We recommend buying a speed rope online as typically many sports shops won’t stock them or probably even know what you are talking about. So we recommend you buy your speed rope online.
Owning your own speed rope is essential. Not only that it’s very easy to do, it’s also relatively cheap too. The price of a good speed rope is between £10-£50.00 depending on how flush you are.
You can buy many a speed rope online from places like Amazon or visit websites such as Gasp Fitness that offer long product warranties, free goodies such as bags, workouts & even FREE DELIVERY all for the mere price of £11.99.
So you’ve made your mind up decided to visit GASP fitness and buy your speed rope, all that’s left is choosing the colour. We like the pink one.
So you’ve just joined a box, and now you’re wandering what the best speedrope for double unders is.
Speed ropes are an essential piece of kit for anyone going to a box. Double unders or DU, (the acronym) play a significant part in many WODs(workout of the day). Having the best speed rope for double unders is a necessity to ensure you get it right.
Double unders are not so easy to do. They will require a basic level of fitness and great conordintation. If you have already mastered the basics then it’s time to move on.
What is a double under?
For those of you that don’t know, a double under is basically when the rope travels over the users head twice while you only jump once. It’s a tricky move and will require a bit of practice. Ensuring that you have the best speed rope for double unders will certainly help you on your way.
I would say the best speed rope for double unders is light weight, either has a plastic or metal handle, a thin wire/steel rope and spins using a ball bearing moving part. The ball bearing moving part has an advantage of the speed ropes that don’t. The ball bearing mechanism allows the rope to not only spin freely but also at an increased velocity.
Why does a speed rope have a metal wire?
The reason why the speed rope has a metal wire is because it is light weight and has a minimal surface area. Because of this, the rope cuts through the air as it is spinning with very little drag.
So where can i buy the best skipping rope for double unders?
Well i’m super glad you asked that question. There are a number of great online stores where you can buy a speed rope online, we recommend a company called Gasp Fitness, or failing that you can buy a speed rope Amazon.
Ever wandered what skipping rope for exercise the pros use?
When it comes to choosing a jump rope or skipping rope for exercise or for your sport, it would need to be specific for whatever it is that you are doing. For example a Crossfitter that has to perform many double unders during a high intensity WOD or work out of the day would not choose a heavy leather rope with wooden handles. He/she, the athlete would be much better of choosing a lighter faster speed rop
e with a steel wire rope instead of a pvc, nylon or leather rope.
So really it’s all about choice and what suits you, your sport & what training goals you have. Choosing a skipping rope for exercise is purely a personal choice and what matters is what best suits you.
Let’s look at a couple of professional athletes and what skipping rope for exercise aka jump ropes they use.
On the right we have Amir Khan famous Olympic boxer turned pro, looking in great shape skipping in his boxing gym.
For boxers, skipping or using a jump rope is an intrinsic part of their training, they use the skipping rope for exercise to help mainly with fitness, speed, footwork & coordination. In this photo it looks like he’s got a ball bearing spinning skipping rope with nylon handles and PVC rope.
The ball bearings help the rope to spin round at a fast speed, while the thick pvc rope provides some resistance while it is spinning around to help give the athlete ‘Amir Khan’ in this case a good upper body work out. Using the heavier ropes helps to build a lean cut upper body and.
A typical professional skipping rope workout for a boxer will have a minimum of 5 x three-minute rounds. In each gym there are usually round timers that signal the start of the round (the first beep), a thirty-second signal (which lets the athletes know there are thirty seconds remaining), then finally another beep signalling the end of the round, or the beginning of the rest period. When a boxer/athlete is skipping he will work out at a relatively high work rate and then when he hears the thirty-second bell he will work out at his greatest ability for the last part of the round before stopping for a rest.
Here we have Richard Froning Junior, famous for winning the Reebok games, and being given the accolade of the fittest man in the world. The skipping rope he is using looks like one of the RX jump ropes, these also have a ball bearing which allows the rope to spin round at a super fast speed. The difference with the rope that are used tend to be the rope part. These are usually replaced with a steel wire which cuts through the air like a knife allowing the athlete to easily spin the rope round. This in turn makes performing double unders a little less challenging. Double unders are used very often in part of the WOD (workout of the day), these are either performed to a target number in the workout or are performed as AMRAP which means ‘as many reps as possible’ given in an allocated time frame.
When we say the best skipping rope for MMA what exactly do we mean?
There are loads of different factors that make up what the best skipping rope for mma is. Speed ropes & skipping ropes come in loads of different sizes styles, with different handles & grips. The speed rope or skipping rope is used by MMA athletes as tool for fitness and conditioning.
Skipping or using a speed rope is a great way to improve your coordination. Having great coordination is paramount to your success in the ring or cage. All fighters need to be able to throw a punch, kick, knee, elbow or flying strike and therefore being coordinated is key. Obviously when skipping, your hands and feet must be working together in coordination to have the rope spin correctly.
There are many skipping drills & techniques that fighters use to challenge and improve there coordination. You will often see fighters skipping in front of mirrors, changing feet, jumping from side to side, jumping on one leg, skipping backwards and forwards performing double unders or multiple double unders as part of there training.
Fighters or boxers usually will train in rounds 2 minute rounds for amateur, 3 minute rounds for professionals & 5 min rounds for MMA fighters. Between each round they will usually have between 30-60 seconds break before starting there rounds again. Another way you will find a fighter training with a skipping or speed rope is that that may even use a weighted skipping rope. This adds an extra element to their training and will help to build muscle in their arms while also improving their lactic acid training, so they can train harder & for longer periods of time.
You will see fighters using a combination of different speed rope & weighted skipping ropes as part of their training. If you are looking to buy the perfect speed rope for double unders please click the link below & visit amazon.
